Victoria summer beer festivals are bookended by what is probably the most discussed ingredient in beer: Hops. While at the tail end you have Victoria Beer Week’s Fresh to Death, there’s no need to wait that long as the summer kicks off in one of the best backyards in town.
HOPoxia 2017 happens June 10, 2017, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, in the Phillips Backyard. The normally industrial space backing onto Pembroke becomes easily one of the best spaces in town to party, and as the venue for other events such as the Phillips Backyard Weekender, Brewery and the Beast, as well as numerous evenings of Movie Under the Maltworks, it’s no stranger to being converted to an energetic courtyard.
This year’s event will feature more than 45 breweries, ranging from nearly all of the local breweries, to the well-travelled Fernie Brewing Company and quite a few in between. In addition, there are a number of breweries appearing at the event for the first time, including Campbell River’s Beach Fire Brewing, Parksville’s Mount Arrowsmith Brewing led by David Woodward (formerly of Axe & Barrel and Tofino), Sooke Oceanside Brewing, and, from the mainland, Faculty Brewing and Dogwood Brewing to name a few.
For food offerings, Coast Lunchbox will be on site serving some recipes designed specifically for the event, integrating hoppy beers to stay with the theme of the day.
Tickets are $20, include two tasters, and once you’ve gone through those, additional tasters are $2 each.
For tickets, contact the brewery, or go online at Ticket Rocket, but act fast, as this event is bound to sell out.
